Sustainable Olympic Cauldron in the Sky

Session Description

Discover how an age-old Olympic tradition with sustainability at its core has been reimagined. In this 20-minute EDUTalk, explore the creation of the Paris 2024 Olympic cauldron, where EDF, Aerophile and the designer Matthieu LEHANNEUR replaced the traditional gas-burning flame with a tethered helium balloon carrying an electrically illuminated ‘flame’ – eliminating combustion and CO₂ emissions. This presentation will reveal how innovation, engineering, and environmental responsibility merged to create an iconic symbol of unity and hope with minimal environmental impact, setting a new standard for sustainable celebrations worldwide.
