Webinar Description
In this engaging and insightful webinar, speakers Natalie Nielsen and Evan Foreman explore the significance of pronouns and gender identity through an accessible and theme park-inspired lens. Using the metaphor of being a guest in a theme park, they guide attendees through understanding pronouns, gender expression, and the importance of respectful communication.
The session provides practical strategies for navigating conversations around pronouns, emphasizing empathy, inclusivity, and the power of language in shaping identity. With the STAR framework—Start with ambiguity, Time to ask for pronouns, Accept and internalize identity, and Repetition through mindfulness—attendees gain a simple yet effective approach to fostering an inclusive environment in both personal and professional spaces.
To ensure a shared understanding, the webinar also defines key terms:
• Gender – The outward expression and inward understanding of one’s own identity.
• Pronouns – The parts of speech that a person may use to outwardly identify their gender to the outer world and their own inner world.
• Cisgender – People whose identity is aligned with their sex assigned at birth.
• Transgender – People whose gender is not aligned with their sex assigned at birth.
Designed as an introduction to the topic, this webinar encourages curiosity, open-mindedness, and a willingness to learn, helping participants become more confident and respectful in their interactions. Whether you are new to discussions about gender or looking to refine your understanding, this session offers valuable insights for creating more inclusive and welcoming spaces.
