Session Description
Join us for a session exploring a groundbreaking study on Efteling’s heritage, sparked by the monument questions surrounding the demolition of Spookslot in 2022 to make way for the park’s newest experience: Danse Macabre.
Developed with KU Leuven and the Raymond Lemaire International Centre for Conservation, this research sheds light on how theme parks hold cultural significance and why they are in need for a unique, culture-specific conservation strategy. Because heritage does not have to be an obstacle. Instead, it can become a strategic tool for innovation: helping parks to look forward while empowering their roots.
This session is ideal for anyone that is interested in blending the preservation of a park’s history and culture with future development, to rethink the notion and role of heritage in the theme park industry.
