Session Description
Explore the fascinating world of dark rides through the lens of three years of in-depth scientific research. Led by Dr. Wim Strijbosch and Dr. Pieter Cornelis, this session shares insights from an analysis of 250 dark rides across 75 criteria, revealing how these attractions are carefully designed as staged guest experiences. Attendees will learn about two core experiential trajectories—inward-driven and outward-driven—and how visitor motivations, opportunities, and abilities influence their journey. The session also highlights key elements that shape the dark ride experience, including emotion, imagery, and narrative states such as presence, flow, and narrative transportation.
