How Future-Proof is the European Attractions and Theme Parks Industry's Commitment to Sustainability?

Session Description

How committed is the European attractions industry to real, measurable sustainability—and how future-proof are those efforts? This 10-minute innovation spotlight presents findings from a recent academic research project analyzing sustainability initiatives across Europe’s top 20 theme parks and major ride manufacturers.

Through interviews, corporate report analysis, and trend mapping, the research reveals significant gaps in transparency, standardization, and long-term planning. It highlights the disconnect between what companies report, what they publicly share, and how their efforts align with emerging sustainability trends. With 622 initiatives tracked, the study categorizes parks into "beginners," "influencers," and "shapers" based on their commitment level and breadth of action.

This eye-opening presentation challenges industry professionals to rethink communication, accountability, and the urgent need to embed sustainability more deeply into operations, design, and guest engagement.
